Focusing on You, Your child, or Your relationship
01 — Psychiatric Evaluations with or without a Diagnosis. (Included evaluation of Executive Functioning strengths and challenges and a treatment plan if continuing services).
Our first meeting is up to 90 minutes long. This allows enough time to work on building therapeutic relationship, evaluating strengths and challenges of your executive functions and gaining an understanding of the true challenges you want to work on. Please note that I am unable to only look to prove or disprove that you meet the criteria for an ADHD diagnosis. As a licensed therapist it is unethical for me to go into an evaluation looking for one disorder. My evaluations are quite thorough requiring multiple forms be completed in advance of the evaluation to have a full picture of your symptoms and struggles. Thank you. This can be completed either in person or via telehealth
02 — Individual Counseling
The most common type of therapy is one on one. After the evaluation, we begin to delve into working on finding the solutions to the challenges you have brought to the table. As a social worker, I primarily try to work from a strengths based perspective. This means that rather than focusing on your challenges and what you do not have, we look at what you have for strengths. We take this information and see how you have gotten through difficulties in the past. By using your current strengths and skills we work to add new support and coping skills into your life routines. I also provide you with as much information (Psycho-education) as possible about the challenges you are struggling with and as a team we are able to achieve your best level of success. I use ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) in a great deal of my work to help you stop looking at life from a fighting perspective and ask yourself the important questions, such as- How has that been working for you? This can be completed both in person and via telehealth.
03 — Family work
While family work isn’t my primary area of practice and is not offered as a client’s regular weekly or bi-weekly session, I do offer some parenting work for those struggling to work with a child that may be frustrating for them. Often this becomes an individual need for a parent on their own, but it can be for both parents together. Sometimes the full family comes together for a session to ensure that everyone is communicating effectively. I only offer family work in person due to the lack of ability to see body language of multiple people on a computer. For more than 2 clients I need additional notice due to the size of my office at this time. Thank you,
04 — ADHD Coaching/ Psycho-Education Sessions
Most Insurance companies do not cover ADHD coaching at.this time. Check with your insurance company to see if this is something that is covered. If not it is an option made available through private pay.. This type of work can be done via computer (video telehealth sessions) or in person in my office. After evaluating what areas of your life, and which executive functioning skills are primarily impacted, we will work together as a team to put into place a schedule of sessions to help with educating you to implement skills to best improve your life. These are typically shorter than traditional therapy sessions and do not delve into family, trauma etc. Simply focusing on struggles and problem solving with skills to be put into place. Most clients need a combination of both Therapy and ADHD Coaching- we are not a one size fits all type of people after all. ADHD brings up all types of challenges and I will work with you to find out what fits you as an individual.
If you accept yourself, difficulties and all, you’ll notice the change through skills work.
ADHD comes with it’s own set of challenges. If we own them rather than fighting them, we can decrease the shame cycle and work towards strong coping skills to help create a smoother life with less stress. This helps to build a great internal and external support system for you and your life. With ADHD we tend to go through a regular shame spiral and this can cause something called rejection sensitive dysphoria. A huge struggle for children, teens, and adults alike, you feel immense pain when you feel criticized. Rather than only hearing the negative, together we can see the positives and find your strengths.
